Characteristics of Prophet Muhammad
peace and blessing be upon him

Introduction
The Muhammadan Morals are a Good Pattern For the Believers

Allah Most High said, {And thou (standest) on an exalted standard of character}

(The Pen: V., 4).

He also said, { You have indeed in the Apostle of God a beautiful pattern (of conduct)}
(The Confederates: V., 21)

So, God’s saying, {And thou (standest) on an exalted standard of character} is a great testimony from God, the Great and Almighty, that Muhammad’s character is the best. Another testimony is the Prophet’s saying, ‘My Lord has cultivated me and He Knew how to do so’. And also his saying, ‘I was sent to complete the right morals’. Besides, God’s saying, {You have indeed in the Apostle of God a beautiful pattern (of conduct) for any one whose hope is in God and the Final Day}, is a statement by God, the Great and Almighty Who asked His slaves to follow the steps of the great Prophet and to make him their only pattern (of conduct).

Also, the Prophet, God’s blessing and peace be upon him, says in the following Hadith, ‘The dearest persons to me and the nearest to me in the Day of Judgment are those who have the best morals’. The Prophet, God’s blessing and peace be upon him, was asked about the righteousness (piety), he said, ‘It is the good character’.

Thus, the Muhammadan perfection is of two kinds: The first one can’t be followed and can’t be imitated like the nobility of descent, the beauty of nature, the superiority of prestige, the selection for the message and the receiving of the divine inspiration. The other kind of the Prophet’s perfection can be followed by the one who desires to be as him. We shall now mention some examples of the Muhammadan morals and characteristics,

The Muhammadan Ethics
Muhammad, God’s blessing and peace be upon him, was adorned and beautified by the following good manners:
1) A version of his glance. He gazed not at things, he looked at the ground more than looking at the sky.

2) When he walked with his companions, he allowed them to proceed him (to walk infront of him) and he was the first to salute the one he met.

3) When he talked, he did so briefly. He said, ((If the person desires to be a good Muslim, he has to leave the things that do not relate to him». He also said, «The one who believes in Allah and the Final Day has to say good words, otherwise, he has to be silent».

4) He faced continuous grievances. For that reason, he always thought of many things and had no relief. Besides, he was gentle, polite, neither rough nor offensive.

5) This life world did not anger him.

6) If he were angry, he turned away from the problem which caused his anger and if he were happy, he lowered his glance. And when he was so happy, he laughed not but he was satisfied with a gentle smile.

7) When he talked, he did so three times; if he greeted, he did so three times and if he asked the permission of someone, he did so three times. He did so in order to make the others understand him completely and deeply.

8) He participated in the speech of his companions. If they mentioned this life world, he mentioned it with them; if they mentioned the Final Day, he also talked about it and if they talked about food and drink, he talked about them.

9) When he sat, he raised his knees and if he sat to eat, he raised his right leg and sat on the left one.

10) He did not criticize any kind of food offered to him. If the food appealed to him, he ate from it and if it did not, he left it.

These are very noble manners that one can follow and make them his own and best example (pattern). Let us now examine the Muhammadan morals and characteristics carefully and in more details.
