Miracles of Prophet Muhammad

The Fourteenth Miracle : The prostration of the Camel for the Messenger of Allah, God’s Blessing and Peace be Upon Him, and the Camel’s Complaining to the prophet

Al-Nasa’i and Ahmad transmitted in their sanad From Anas Ibn Malik, may God be pleased with him: ‘A family from Ansar had a camel which was used by them to bring water from the well. One day, the camel prevented them to use the well. They soon came to the Messenger of Allah and told him that they had a camel which they used to bring water but now it is impossible for them to do so because the camel refuses to help them and as a result, all the plants became so thirsty.

The Messenger of Allah, God’s blessing and peace be upon him, said to his companions, ‘Come with me’. They did as they were asked. The Prophet entered the surrounded garden of Al-Ansar and saw the camel which stood near the well. Al-Ansar told the Messenger that the camel has become like a dog and that they are afraid of it. But the messenger feared it not. When the camel saw the Messenger, it approached him and prostrated before him. The Messenger then took the camel to work as before.

The companions of the Messenger were astonished and said, ‘O Messenger of Allah! This camel is but an animal and it prostrates itself to you. It is better for us to do so’. He said, ‘No human being is to prostrate to a human being like him. If prostration of the human being to one another is acceptable, then I would order the wife to prostrate to her husband’. ’

Moreover, Muslim transmitted that one day the Prophet, God’s blessing and peace be upon him, entered with some of his companions to one of the gardens of al-Ansar. A camel approached the Prophet and its eyes were filled with tears. The Messenger of Allah wiped its back and its eyes and soon the camel calmed down. The Messenger asked about its owner. A boy from al-Ansar came and told him that he is the owner of the camel. The Messenger said, ‘Don’t you fear God? This animal you own has complained to me that it is hungry and tired because you use it continuously in your work’. Is this not one of the prophetic miracles? Yes, it is.
