The Second Miracle : The Cleavage of the Moon
Ahmad, al-Bukhari and Muslim transmitted in their “ Two Correct Sahihs " that the people of Mecca asked the Messenger of Allah, God’s blessing and peace be upon him, to show them a sign (a miracle). He showed them the cleavage of the moon.
Mut’im said that ‘The moon was cleft asunder in the time of Muhammad and it became two parts, one part on this mountain and the other one on that mountain’.
They said that Muhammad bewitched them; however, God, the Great and Almighty,
revealed the following sura to assure the truth of this miracle,
"The Hour (of Judgment) is nigh, and the moon is cleft asunder.
But if they see a sign, they turn away, and say, This is (but) transient magic.
They reject (the warning) and follow their (own) lusts but every matter has
its appointed time"
(Qamar or The Moon: V., 1-3)
